The Yorkshire Dales National Park offers an opportunity to witness awe-inspiring celestial skies, unobstructed by any form of light pollution. Discover intriguing information about the planets and star constellations in our solar system while following the self-guided Trail.
The Planet Trail will be exhibited in Freeholders’ Wood, located a short distance from Aysgarth Falls National Park Visitor Centre and the delectable Coppice Café. To find the opening hours of the Visitor Centre, please refer to the Aysgarth National Park Visitor Centre page on our website.

The trail spans a distance of approximately 1.5 kilometres, encompassing the entirety of the circuit, which includes the waterfalls. The Planet Trail will be exhibited continuously in the woodland area from February 9th to February 25th, 2024, as a component of the Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival.
Reservations are unnecessary.

Experience our newly introduced dark skies themed rubbing trail at Freeholders’ Wood, located at the Aysgarth National Park Visitor Centre. Engage in an exploration of the premises and locate the plaques dedicated to rubbing constellations. Utilise your brass rubbing crayon to uncover the presence of 10 distinct constellations that we have deliberately concealed for your discovery. This event does not require prior booking and is open for anyone to attend. However, it is advisable to verify the operating hours of the National Park Visitor Centre before planning your visit.
