Littondale with its long green field has the river Skifare flowing through the centre that feeds into the river Wharfe. It s rich in bronze and iron age settlements for 5,000 years or more sheltering in its fertile valley. The smooth sided nature of this dale is the result of many ice ages, especially the one dating from 20,000 years ago. Littondale has a number of sink or shake holes which led to a vast cave systems such as Boreham cave. At the very head of this dale is the world famous Pen-y-gent one of the three peaks. This is a fantastic walk but care must be taken as it is both arduous and long 37.5 km or 23.3 miles.
If you are just wanting to relax why not come and have a beer at the Falcon Inn at Arncliffe, go back in time when Inn’s served ale in a jug the old fashioned way and relax in front of the fire and chill out, bliss.
Many films have been screened in the village including the long running TV program Emmerdale.
