Grassington, Linton and Thorpe in the Yorkshire Dales National Park
September 16 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm
Our 6-mile walk begins in Grassington, famous for its shops, cafes and filming of All Creatures Great and Small. We walk from the Visitor Centre down to the spectacular Linton Falls, then on to the pretty village of Linton for a coffee stop at the famous Fountaine Inn.
Linton has a discreet chapel located in what once was Fountains Hospital, now Almshouses. There is a sundial monument in Linton declaring it to be the prettiest village in the North of England. We leave the village by one of the 3 bridges over the beck including an ancient clapper bridge, and the 14th century humpback bridge known as “Little Emily’s Bridge”. We ramble on through a couple of fields where we may spot a curlew or a buzzard, and up to the quiet road that takes us to the picturesque hamlet of Thorpe.
We continue on field paths and down to the suspension bridge over the river Wharfe. Our route takes us back to Grassington on the banks of the beautiful river Wharfe. Please bring a packed lunch.
