Fire Works At Bolton Abbey

Peyee Chen (b. Taipei, Taiwan) is a soprano with a particular interest in contemporary and Baroque music. Appearances as a soloist include the Gavin Bryars Ensemble, Adelaide Festival, Club Transmediale Festival, Edinburgh Contemporary Music Ensemble, Lucerne Festival with the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and Barbara Hannigan, Pierrot Lunaire on the York Spring Festival, The Light Show as part of Southbank Centre’s Harmonic Series, and world premieres at Spitalfields Festival, GEMdays, Tête à Tête Opera Festival, and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival One of the UK’s most exciting violinists, Sophie Rosa was awarded the Second Prize and Audience Prize at the 2nd Manchester International Violin Competition 2011. She has performed across the UK as a recitalist in venues including the Royal Festival Hall, the Purcell Room and Bridgewater Hall as well as appearing with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Manchester Camerata. Sophie has broadcast for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM and has performed regularly throughout the UK and internationally from a very young age. In 2006 she was a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition and was the First Prize winner of the Lions European Music Competition, Cannes. “Combination of sensitivity and virtuosity” – Musical Opinion Quarterly Ben Crick has established a reputation as an innovative and original conductor who is comfortable working with diverse and challenging repertoire; he is a former BBC Music Fellow. In recent years he has conducted concertos with Tasmin Little, Raphael Walfisch, Peter Donohoe, Nicholas Daniel, Jennifer Pike and Benjamin Frith as well as conducting Handel’s Messiah with Dame Emma Kirkby performing the soprano solos.
