Our Spring Gala is returning for 2019, Friday 8th March – Sunday 10th March. Following the huge success of the 2018 Spring Gala, when the Railway played host to 2 visiting locomotives, National Collection, ‘Britannia’ 7MT 4-6-2 70013 ‘Oliver Cromwell’ from the Great Central Railway and from the West Somerset Railway, SDJR 2-8-0 53808, we will once again be hosting a visiting locomotive plus two new comers from closer to home.
In 2019, courtesy of The Midland & Great Northern Railway Society we will be welcoming LNER B12 4-6-0 8572 from the North Norfolk Railway. In addition to 8572, the Spring Gala will also mark the first gala appearance since overhaul of 2 Worth Valley based locomotives. Courtesy of the Bahamas Locomotive Society, LMS ‘Jubilee’ Class 4-6-0 45596 ‘Bahamas’ will be making its first appearance on heritage railway services (it will have been in action from Oxenhope to Carlisle in February on a mainline charter) since returning after its thorough overall at Tyseley and Standard 4 Locomotive Society’s BR Class 2 2-6-0 78022 will be marking its gala debut after restoration to running condition.
BAHAMAS LOCOMOTIVE SOCIETY, LMS ‘JUBILEE’ CLASS 4-6-0 45596 ‘BAHAMAS’
Built in 1934 for the LMS as 5596, ‘Bahamas, was the first of the four Jubilees of the class to be preserved, being purchased by the Bahamas Locomotive Society (BLS), as BR no. 45596, in 1967. Following its most extensive overhaul since 1961, 45596 is returning to the BLS base at Ingrow in the Worth Valley to occasionally work service trains on the branch and operate on the main line once again. This will be ‘Bahamas’ first gala for many years.

STANDARD 4 LOCOMOTIVE SOCIETY, BR CLASS 2 2-6-0 78022
Built to a BR standard design 78022 was delivered new from Darlington in 1954 and withdrawn in 1967 from Lostock Hall (Preston), finding its way to Woodham Bros. as scrap. Bought by the Standard 4 Locomotive Society in 1975 the engine arrived on the KWVR in 1975. Restoration of 78022 was completed in 1993 and the locomotive retired for public exhibition at Oxenhope in 2003, remaining there until its 2nd overhaul commenced, completed in November 2018. This gala marks its first gala appearance since 2000.

THE EVENT WILL FEATURE AN INTENSIVE PASSENGER SERVICE FEATURING A VARIETY OF OUR COACHING STOCK INCLUDING:

The locomotive line up is subject to alteration at any time and whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.
