FOOD FOR THOUGHT: CHRIS CLARK & NEIL HESELTINE – THE FUTURE OF FARMING IN THE DALES
£10.00 (including lunch)
27 June 2018 | 1pm
Venue: Games Room, Festival Hall
Join local farmers Chris Clark and Neil Heseltine to discuss the future of farming in the Dales.
Chris is the owner of Nethergill Farm, home to rare breed Shorthorn cattle with a gradually improving biodiversity, including otter, red squirrel, black grouse and some rare Sphagnums. He has been utilising his 30 years’ management consultancy experience to advise farm businesses in North Yorkshire how to embrace alternative business measures and standards, in preparation for Brexit.
Neil is the fourth generation of Heseltine’s to farm Hill Top Farm in Malham where he farms with partner Leigh. They have farmed Belted Galloway cattle for the past 14 years and have seen a marked increase in natural flora and herbs, including the restoration of a traditional hay meadow with the help of the Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust.
He works with the National Trust, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the RSPB to maintain and create a diverse farm habitat.
