Welcome to a fantasy Christmas at Harewood
For the second year running, Harewood House will open at Christmas, this year dressed by Creative Director Simon Costin. For six weeks, opening Saturday 24 November, enter a Christmas dreamscape that extends from the House into the surrounding grounds, with festive-themed music, events, demonstrations and experiences, including an encounter with Father Christmas.
24 November to 6 January 10am – 6pm
Early close on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve
Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day
Admission tickets give access to all areas of the Christmas experience
Father Christmas is a separate pre-bookable event and not included in the ticket price
Please note: Some parts of the grounds and Bird Garden will close early due to light.
When should I arrive?
As winter draws in and the days grow shorter, there are different opening times to be aware of:
- State Floor, Below Stairs and Terrace Café: 10am – 6pm (last entry 5.15pm)
- Bird Garden, Farm Experience, Playground and Gardens: 10am – 3.30pm (last entry 3pm)
- Courtyard Café: 10.30am – 5.30pm
- Courtyard Shop: 10am – 5.30pm
- Please note the house and grounds are closed on 25 and 26 December and 1 January
Do I need to pre-book?
Pre-booking is advised. Booking opens on Friday 21st September.

What will be open in the house?
We will be opening the western side of the House including the Gallery, State Dining Room and the Main Library. Below Stairs will also be open including the Old Kitchen and the Pastry Room.
Can we walk around the grounds?
The grounds will also be open including the Bird Garden and Farm Experience. These will close at dusk so please check with the team on exact timings when you visit.
The Adventure Playground will also be open, closing at sunset.
I’m a Harewood Member. Do I need to pay?
Harewood members are welcome to enjoy the house and grounds at no extra charge. Activities including our Father Christmas experiences and the workshops are charged separately.

I use a wheelchair. Is the event accessible to me?
The State Floor of Harewood House offers access via an electric stair lift. Please note, the lift is not suitable for electric wheelchairs. Harewood can provide wheelchairs which can be used, however they are offered on a first come, first served basis.
Below Stairs in the kitchens, there are some stairs which are unfortunately not wheelchair friendly. Some areas are accessible including the Old Kitchen, Still Room and Pastry Room.
Can I bring my dog?
The gardens are dog friendly and your well behaved, four-legged friends are welcome on leads.
Please be advised that dogs are not allowed in the house, Bird Garden, Farm or Adventure Playground.
