Music, art and theatre has the ability to transform. See the world through new eyes this summer with our month-long Festival bursting with colour, laughter, soul and song.
Harrogate Music Festival 2018
2018’s Festival theme, Innovation, brings one of the most mercurial (and Mercury Award nominated) singers, Laura Mvula, to Harrogate. Returning are Festival favourite, The John Wilson Orchestra, swinging into town to breathe new life into Hollywood’s Golden Age, and we’ll relive Bernstein and Tchaikovsky, marking key anniversaries of the composers’ lives.
Step into summer with Harrogate International Festivals – the home of festivals.
The Story of Harrogate Music Festival
The Harrogate Music Festival brings the best of chamber, classical, jazz and contemporary music to a host of venues in Harrogate, and nurtures emerging talent through the Young Musician’s Platform, whose alumni include Lesley Garret, Julian Lloyd Webber and Amy Winehouse. As well as world-class performers the festival features Guest Curators, artist residencies, Masterclasses, cross-arts performances, family events, lectures and pre-concert talks.
In 2016 Harrogate International Festivals celebrated its 50th Anniversary and are now committed to matching their acheivements in culturally groundbreaking events for the next 50 years.
Music is a universal language that crosses time and space, from one generation to the next. It connects us to the human experience. A piece of music written hundreds of years ago can reveal its beauty stretching across the centuries. It can grab you from the inside. Our programme is designed to celebrate music passed down, honoured or reinvented through the generations, and our Young Musicians Series provides a platform for the next generation of performers.
“…takes the good name of Harrogate around the world in a way no amount of advertising could achieve.” Yorkshire Post
