Malhamdale mentioned in the doomsday book as Malgun which means settlement and is home to the famous 260ft Malham Cove and the birthplace of the river Aire. Here is the place to see wonderful limestone scenery and the surrounding countryside is well known for its limestone pavements, many of which can be seen at the top of Malham Cove
The Malham agricultural and horticultural show (known as the Malham Show) which is held on August Bank Holiday is a chance for the farmers to compete and show the best of the best sheep and of course there is the fell racing competition which is seen as a real challenge. Also another yearly event is the Malham Safari where villagers and school children build sculptures then display them around the village
At the head of Malham Cove is Malham Tarn, the highest in England where fishermen can buy a day ticket and hire a boat.
The cove was formed in the ice age and is a geological wonder. If bird watching is your thing then Malham is home to Peregrine Falcons. Come and visit the village Blacksmith and watch the forge at work. Finally fpr all you Harry Potter fans Malham Cove limestone pavement was used in scenes in the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1
